China is suffering a moral and ethical dilemma right now, given their recent behavior, spying on the African Union for 5 years through the

computers they installed at the headquarters of the AU. Now, the US government is wary of anything Chinese technology has to offer her citizens and the latest victim of a policy of avoidance of Chinese products is Huawei.

In the case of African Union, Le Monde reports that it was a Greek gift whereby China was able to do this because it financed and built the new building itself to act as the African Union’s new headquarters and gifted it under false pretenses of cordial partnership.

Now, the US government is concerned about Chinese-made telecom equipment and rightly so in my opinion. Verizon is reportedly following AT&T's lead and canceling plans to sell Huawei's Mate 10 Pro smartphone that boasts support for the upcoming super-fast 5G network, according to a  report today by Bloomberg.

The report hints at a possible political pressure from Washington on Verizon, which is seeing a reinvigorated fear of spying from China as US regulators urged an investigation of Chinese-made telecom equipment in December 2017. It's the same reason AT&T dropped its deal with Huawei to offer the Mate 10 Pro on January 8.

Huawei's Mate 10 Pro with 5G networking capabilities seemingly falls under the category of Chinese-made telecom equipment under investigation, as the company has been accused of having ties with the Chinese government.

Earlier versions of Huawei smartphone products have been sold by these telecom giants in the past. What appears to be the source of concern this time around is the 5G capabilities. Recall that we reported about 5G wireless networks and their capabilities recently. Any phone with Chinese 5G networking equipment could feasibly allow a backdoor to US network activity for the Chinese government.

5G is the upcoming evolution of the current 4G LTE network that most mobile devices use to send and receive data. 5G will be used for far more than simple mobile data, as it will offer the speed and bandwidth required for more complex communications for autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence.
